The Manorview Charity Day raised £19,000 which was donated to A&M Scotland.

We held our inaugural charity legends football match in association with A&M Scotland. This took place at Hamilton Accies SuperSeal Stadium on Sunday 9th July when Manorview took on a team of ex-professional football legends.

It was summer football weather in Scotland, which meant incessant first half rain.

Legends had travelled from far and wide. From Amsterdam, we had Arthur Numan, Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink and Bert Konterman. Closer to home, we had former Old Firm players such as Charlie Miller and Simon Donnelly, while former Accies favourites Jose Quitongo and Mark McLaughlin returned to their old ground.

The Manorview legends included Captain Kenny Barclay, A Finance Director by day, and a master of an inspirational speech, as well as tactics man Robi Giovino and the organisational skills of Steve Buckley, who also doubled up as a Kit Man.

Our Manager, Jim Young, was up against Legends Manager Jim McCalliog, a Scottish hero who played in the England V Scotland game in 1967. Jim scored when Scotland beat their old enemy 3-2.

The match got underway with the Legends putting their stamp on the game with a great shot from former Celtic hero Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink. Manorview equalized with a bullet from Captain Kenny Barclay. The Legends pulled one back to make it 2-1, as our own Chris Hyland from the Redhurst Hotel (who found himself in the Legends team), passed a neat ball through to Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink, who slotted the ball into the back of the net.

The Legends continued to pile on the pressure with ex-Dundee Utd star, Andy McLaren hitting a great right foot strike into the bottom corner to make it 3-1. Former Rangers midfielder Charlie Miller made it a half-time score of 4-1.

While Manorview were hearing some inspirational half-time chat from their Manager and Captain, the crowds were entertained by a troop of dancers from A&M Scotland, who performed a set of back flips to make Man Utd’s Luis Nani jealous.

The half-time team talk took effect as Manorview pulled one back through Carlton Graham who rounded the keeper and tapped the ball into the back of the net to make it 4-2. A great strike came from Steve Buckley to make the final score 4-3, to the Legends.

Manorview fought bravely but they weren’t strong enough to beat a Legends team with talent, silky skills and years of professional experience behind them.

It was up to A&M Charity co-founder Andy McLaren to lift the Manorview Trophy and to hand out the medals.
